So where does the name "Team Six"come from? Well, it comes from SEAL Team Six - an elite military counterterrorism group. And I think of our 6AM crew as an elite group! They are disciplined, focused, and kicking butt every week. How may people in Cambridge do you think are waking up early three times a week to get their workout in BEFORE they go to work? I can tell you its not very many.
The daily discipline I would like you to focus on right now - starting TODAY, like TONIGHT, is to GET TO BED ON TIME. A successful day starts the night before. So how do we do this?
1) Give yourself a 30 minute buffer before your actual bedtime to get ready for bed, and do some reading (not on your phone/tablet) or gentle, deep breathing as a way to quiet your mind and relax.
2) The goal is seven hours of sleep per night through the week, and eight hours on the weekend. That means if you are getting up at 5:00am, you need to be in bed with the lights out by 10:00pm.
3) Avoid caffeine (this includes chocolate) in the late afternoon and avoid rich foods before bedtime.
-People who sleep 7 to 8 hours a night tend to outlive those chronically sleep-deprived (Dement, 1999).
When you get a good night's sleep, your body can rest, recover, REBUILD, and keep you healthy. When we let ourselves get rundown our immune system suffers and we can get sick. If we regularly get a good night's sleep, our body is strong, our mind is rested, and our immunity is on point. These things are more important now than ever. Let's all commit to getting to bed on time each night!
